Lufthansa Psychological Assessments

This past week I was contacted by Lufthansa to complete my online application for a job by taking some psychological assessment tests that help them distinguish the candidates from one another. On their online job portal at be-lufthansa.com, you can actually take the practice tests to learn what the tasks will involve.

There were 4 tests which I had to take, which however realistic they try to be, don't really simulate real working conditions, but I think the goal of the tasks is to see how well you can cope with a lot of tasks at the same time. The test that I had to take were a concentration test, analytical thinking test, data management processing test in the form of sorting emails and an English test. Of all the tests, the easiest one of course was the English test.

However, it required knowledge of terms in both British and American English since some questions required two answers. For instance, the question would ask, what is the device that moves people up and down quickly between floors, and you would have a choice of 4 different responses, two of which were correct: Elevator and Lift.

The analytical test was most difficult require the most concentration. Here is what one of the assignments looked like.

This example is pretty easy, but you have to first organize the data by color, because in the real test the diamonds with the circles above are mismatched and need to be moved, and then from there you have to organize the data and then find the similarities. Below you click on the dots to fill in a color to match them up with the clue above.

In all the tests took about 60 minutes to complete. It's interesting to note that employers in Germany can make such evaluations before you get hired.
